Module
Aim(s): |
This
module aims to enable students to design water
systems in heating and air-conditioning for
buildings by taking into consideration the
part-load characteristics of the systems and
their environmental impacts. It also aims
to develop students’ competence to make relevant
decisions that complies to requirement on energy
efficiency of buildings and air-conditioning
systems. Throughout the module, students
could practice their application of theories and
develop competence for further study of system
commissioning skills.
|
Objectives: |
On
completion of this Module, students are expected
to be able to:
1. design HVAC water systems for providing air
conditioning in buildings;
2. analyse and quantify the impact of the heat
rejection medium on the coefficient of
performance and energy use of chiller systems;
3. evaluate the performance of cooling towers on
the basis of heat and mass transfer theories;
4. select appropriate refrigeration and control
systems; and
5. explain the key design concerns and compare
the performance of heating systems and equipment
in buildings.
