      • UPV* factor (i.e. 10.48) for case study: LCCA method - Purchase of a central air-conditioner for a house
        • Dr Hui missed out this during the lecture because it is not included in the MEBS6016 syllabus.
        • It is a modified approach for LCC analysis to cater for price escalation.
        • UPV* = Uniform Present Value factor modified for price escalation  = [(1 + e)/(d - e)] [1 - [(1 + e)^n / (1 + d)^n]]
          • where e = annual rate of price increase; d = discount rate; n = number of time periods
          • Present Value = Future Value x UPV*
