Course Syllabus
Building services engineering is very important to modern societies and urban cities. Building services systems are essential installations to provide the basic functionality for occupants. This course will develop students in the basic concepts and design principles of plumbing and drainage systems including practical considerations and code requirements. It will also introduce and explain the electrical services, lighting, lifts, escalators and security systems which are critical for making buildings comfortable, convenient and safe.
The teaching/learning will be supported by audio visual aids, technical visits, hands-on equipment appreciation and project based assignments. Students will have the opportunity to perform laboratory experiments and to undertake mini-projects related to building services systems. This will enhance a better concept in building services engineering and a more thorough application of design skills in such systems. Satisfactory attendance rate and active class participation are expected. The course emphasizes the application of basic engineering principles to the design and analysis of plumbing and drainage, electrical services, lighting, lifts, escalators and security systems. The students have the opportunity to learn the basic concepts, study the practical system design factors, perform laboratory experiments, and undertake mini-projects to better understand the application of knowledge acquired and new advanced technologies. The issue related to energy efficiency and sustainability is also given recognition in the course. There is no
