Concepts
of distributed computer-based monitoring and
control; hardware and software development;
communication protocols; application to
maintenance, energy management and control;
system design and performance evaluation;
computer simulation and emulation techniques;
analysis of dynamic building services systems. |
Objectives: |
To
introduce students to the basic concepts of
computer-based integrated monitoring, control
and energy management for building services
installations.
To
enable students to understand the principles
of design and operation of building energy
management and control systems (EMCS) and
their applications to modern buildings.
To
enable students to understand modern methods
of performance analysis of building services
systems using building EMCS.

Course Content:
The course
covers the fundamental principles, applications and
future development potentials of EMCS which have
become indispensable for modern buildings. The
students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired
to the specification, selection and system enhancement
of building EMCS.
Lectures
and Assigned Readings
The detailed
list of lecture/topics is contained in the Course
Schedule. The lectures provide the conceptual
framework for the course and will also be supplemented
with assigned readings if necessary. Students are
recommended to complete all the assigned readings on
their own time so that questions which may arise can
be discussed more fully. Students are expected to have
a working understanding of the lecture and reading
materials.
