    QF Level: 4
    Credit Points: 3
    Year: 1
    Pre-requisite: Nil
    Co-requisite: Nil
    Module Aim(s): The module aims to impart students the concepts and principles in major areas of physics and develop students’ ability in scientific reasoning, for further study in building services engineering.
    Objectives: On completion of this Module, students are expected to be able to:
    1. predict the motion of general objects and critique any limitation and precision error resulting from model simplifications;
    2. analyse work done, kinetic and potential energy of physical systems and evaluate both isolated and non-isolated models using the concepts of conservation of energy;
    3. evaluate linear momentum and collisions of isolated and non-isolated systems in multiple dimensions as well as systems of many particles;
    4. analyse static equilibrium of a system of rigid objects and evaluate centre of gravity of irregular shaped object; and
    5. describe and analyse the oscillations of mechanical and sound waves, and apply the concept of superposition to describe the motions of standing waves in different elastic media.
    Assessment Methods: • Coursework (50%)
    • Examination (50%)
