Module
Aim(s): |
The
module aims to impart students the concepts and
principles in major areas of physics and develop
students’ ability in scientific reasoning, for
further study in building services engineering.
|
Objectives: |
On
completion of this Module, students are expected
to be able to:
1. predict the motion of general objects and
critique any limitation and precision error
resulting from model simplifications;
2. analyse work done, kinetic and potential
energy of physical systems and evaluate both
isolated and non-isolated models using the
concepts of conservation of energy;
3. evaluate linear momentum and collisions of
isolated and non-isolated systems in multiple
dimensions as well as systems of many particles;
4. analyse static equilibrium of a system of
rigid objects and evaluate centre of gravity of
irregular shaped object; and
5. describe and analyse the oscillations of
mechanical and sound waves, and apply the
concept of superposition to describe the motions
of standing waves in different elastic media.
