    QF Level: 5
    Credit Points: 3
    Year: 2
    Pre-requisite: Electrical Services Fundamental
    Co-requisite: Nil
    Module Aim(s): This module aims to enable students to explore critical issues, more complex technical problems and the solutions arising from design and operation of electrical installations, and to critically think how we could achieve reliable, energy efficient, environmentally compatible electrical systems in the buildings of large industrial and commercial scale.
    Objectives: On completion of this Module, students are expected to be able to:
    1. design reliable low-voltage (LV) building distribution systems by adopting appropriate circuit arrangements, protection schemes, alternative power sources, etc.;
    2. design installations for reliable supply to critical loads in buildings;
    3. analyse harmonics in building electrical systems, and to provide remedial solutions in the design and installations of electrical systems; and
    4. design lightning protection systems, and to use surge protective devices to suppress lightning-induced transients in distribution systems.
    Assessment Methods: • Assignment (20%)
    • Test (20%)
    • Examination (60%)
