    power distribution
    QF Level: 5
    Credit Points: 3
    Year: 2
    Pre-requisite: Advanced Electrical Technology
    Co-requisite: Nil
    Module Aim(s): The module provides students with fundamentals of electrical power conversion and rotating machines for the analysis of their performance in building electrical systems. It provides students with the knowledge on main operating characteristics and functions of electrical and electronic power equipment which used in electrical systems and sub-systems in buildings. This module also aims to enable students to adequately model rotating electrical machines, recognize and apply the design approaches and principles for power distribution in and around buildings, and identify the requirements for safety, efficiency and reliability of electrical installations as manifest in supply rules, regulations, codes, etc.
    Objectives: On completion of this Module, students are expected to be able to:
    1. analyse the operating characteristics and functions of electrical and electronic power equipment related to buildings electrical systems;
    2. analyse the performance of motor drives and machines for electrical installations in buildings;
    3. design typical low-voltage distribution systems in high-rise buildings; and
    4. analyse the operation of systems under starting, steady-state and transient fault conditions for safe operation and system integrity.
    Assessment Methods: • Course work (40%)
    • Examination (60%)
