    PDE
    QF Level: 5
    Credit Points: 3
    Year: 3
    Pre-requisite: Advanced Engineering Mathematics
    Co-requisite: Nil
    Module Aim(s): This module provides students with an understanding of simple analytic and numerical methods and enables students to apply the basic techniques to model and solve the mathematical problems in building services engineering using numerical method.  By introducing Matlab as a computing tool in engineering analysis, this module also enables students to apply Matlab to create computational code for solving problems in building services engineering; and stimulate student’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills as to support their study in later stage, e.g., project works and elective subjects in the final year.
    Objectives: On completion of this Module, students are expected to be able to:
    1. apply mathematical reasoning to analyse essential features of different problems in building services engineering;
    2. adapt known solutions to different situations in building services engineering;
    3. analyse and model application problems using numerical method in building services engineering; and
    4. write computational code using Matlab for solving engineering problems and explain the computation results.
    Assessment Methods: • Assignment (10%)
    Test (30%)
    • Examination (60%)
