19.3 Suspended Acoustics Tiled Ceiling
600 X 600 standard tile module is used while the ceiling is composed of sets of 12 modules. Suspended ceilings are adaptable to most types of structural systems. They allow maximum freedom of positioning of the structural elements and permit virtually any type of mechanical equipment to be installed above them. There is also no restriction on the direction in which ducts and services may run.
Suspended ceiling can improve the insulation against both air-borne and mpact noise by an amount depending on the weight of the suspended ceiling and the degree of rigidity with which the ceiling is attached to the structural floor. However, suspended ceilings are not recommended as a means of obtaining high insulation in buildings.
