2.2 Caissons I
The cassion can be divided into 2 groups. Caissons no.1 - 6 are the foundations for the main part of the building and take the greatest oad. Therefore, they have the largest diameter. Caissons no. 7 - 25 are much smaller and they work together to support the first 4 floors of gallery and lecture rooms.
The length of caissons varies not only because of the different design loading, but also the soil strength at that particular level and location. The soil should have adequate N-value before excavation ceases.
