Moving Industrial History

1850 Ückendorf is still of rural character

1861 Construction of the „Rheinelbe“ mine begins

1889 Gelsenkirchener foundry Gußstahl- und Eisenwerke AG (Cast Steel and Iron Works AG) begins operation

1900 „Rheinelbe“ is one of the largest mines in the district

1930 „Rheinelbe“ closes for technical reasons

1960 Over 3.000 people work in the foundry

1973/ 74 Thyssen takes over the (worn) foundry

1984 Thyssen-Guß (Thyssen foundry) brought to a standstill

1989 Plans for a science and technology park begin

1995 The Science and Technology Park is opened

1996 The world's largest rooftop solar power plant is put into operation
