Providing Information and Technology Worldwide for Preserving the Global Environment
The United Nations Environment Programme International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP IETC) was established as Japan's first UN organization in the environmental field, and GEC (Global Environment Center Foundation ) has been providing various support to UNEP IETC Osaka, which deals with environmental management issues in large cities, especially those in developing countries. Located at Tsurumi Ryokuchi, Tsurumi-ku, Osaka, the UNEP International Environmental Technology Center works with the GEC to support the environmental efforts of developing countries by applying technologies and know-how originating in developed countries, including Japan. Both Centers contribute to balanced progress in developing countries and countries undergoing economic transition with the preservation of our planet. The two Centers are located in a corner of Tsurumi Park, which served as the site of Expo '90, whose theme was "Appreciating the relationship of plants and gardens to human life".
