History of the Site
Past - Industrial Area
It is an amazing experience that you can now spend your leisure time in a place where once many men did their very hard work. From 1903 to 1985, steelworks had been carried out in the nowadays"Landschaftspark Duisburg - Nord " ( Landscape Park Duisburg North ).

The old furnaces has become one attraction of the park, you can climb to the top of it and see where the workers worked and you can feel a little bit of the dangers they had to fight with. Each year several workers died of the heat. In the filling of the furnace there were temperatures from 1200 to 1600 Degree Celsius. The furnace produced per day 500 to 1200 tons of crude iron, 200 to 500 tons of dross and 2000 to 5000 tons of furnace gas. You needed 600 kgs of coal per ton of crude iron; 2000 to 5000 tons of air were needed. One of the furnaces was transported from Duisburg to India. It is still in use there.
