The Museum of Coastal Defense sees the successful conversion of Lei Yue Mun Fort, Built by the British in 1887, into a field museum. The focal point below-grade courtyard is covered by a tensile fabric structure and underground casements were converted into exhibition rooms, offices, retail facilites and audio-visual facilites. Under the shelter provided by the tensile structure, a viewing gallery has been established above the casements, from which museum patrons can view the channel the fort was originally built to defend.
