The museum of coastal defence consists of 3 parts as shown in figure (a). They are (area A) the reception area, (area B) the redoubt and (area C) the historical trail.
The reception building
The reception building or the lift tower is the main building in this area consists of 2 lifts, a lecture hall, toilets. The building is constructed in the middle of the green strip lining the Shau Kei Wan shore. It is built for improving the accessibility of the redoubt. The simple and compact design of the building minimized the removal of vegetation.
The reception building also act as a host with electrical cables ducts, rooms for piping installed inside. With the footbridge, it is used to channel cables and pipelines to the redoubt for services like water supply, drainage discharge and electricity. This design can minimized the excavation work and in a great extent, conserving the landscape in its original form.
The Redoubt
The redoubt was renovated to be a more sustainable and suitable displaying area. With new features added to the redoubt, more exhibition space is created and the structure is more accessible.
